Riparian Corridor
riparian erosion control timber production water management
A 300-foot stretch of degraded creek bank was eroding and choked with invasive species. We stabilized the banks with live stakes and native plantings, created a series of small check dams to slow and spread water, and established a diverse riparian community.
Riparian zones are among the most productive and biodiverse ecosystems on the continent โ and among the most degraded. This project restored over an acre of creek corridor, reduced downstream sediment load significantly, and created nesting habitat for three species of native birds within the first season. The timber production potential of the willow and cottonwood plantings will be realized in five to eight years.
